CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Solidity of a company will not be valuable without the implementation of the mandate of corporate social responsibility (CSR) or partnership in community development. The commitment is maintained by Terminal Teluk Lamong as a new port service operator that is in direct contact with the community and surrounding environment. CSR is the company’s commitment to build a better quality of life with the surrounding communities and social environment where the company exists sustainably. In other words, there are programs that can bring the Company closer to communities surrounding the port or terminal.

CSR scope executed by Terminal Teluk Lamong refers to ISO 26000 which covers seven field of works, namely ‘the environment’ or concern to surrounding communities by executing a variety of natural and environmental improvement around the harbor for the safety and comfort of communities around Terminal Teluk Lamong. Another field covers ‘social development’ by paying attention to social development around the company, and ‘human rights’ by paying attention to human rights of the surrounding communities, listening to aspirations, and respecting all activities of local residents.

Terminal Teluk Lamong also executed ‘organizational governance’ or forming cooperation with local government to execute programs which benefits all parties, including the company, government, and surrounding communities. Likewise, in ‘labor practice’ the Company directly involves the surrounding communities as one of the important parts in company development. The next field is ‘fair operating practices’ to make the community as a part of Terminal Teluk Lamong’s performance with various absolute requirements which must be met, as well as ‘consumer issues’ or paying attention to customer complaints with various improvements in all areas.

A number of programs that have been arranged is building community development, including economic, educational, health, socio-cultural, and infrastructure improvements in corporate environment. A presence of community development is expected to contribute towards Company activities around the community. Before proceeding any further, the Company’s active role is necessary to build a mutually-contributing environment.

To ensure that the declared programs are on target, a social mapping is held. Social mapping is performed by involving Stakeholders consisting of the communities, local government (from the lowest to the highest level), customer, business partner, and parent company.

Social mapping is performed to areas with direct impact to company activities. As a result, there are two areas with direct and indirect impact, namely Ring 1 and Ring 2. RING 1 area consists of communities with direct contact with company activity. In social mapping there are six kelurahan and three kecamatan in Surabaya as well as two villages and one kecamatan in Gresik. Kelurahan with direct impact are Kelurahan Tambak Osowilangun, Romokalisari (both in Kecamatan Benowo), Genteng Kalianak, Tambaksarioso (both in Kecamatan Asemrowo), and Morokrembangan (Kecamatan Krembangan). The three kecamatan are within Surabaya. Meanwhile, those within Gresik area are Desa Tenggulunan and Karangkiring in Kecamatan Kebomas.

Aside from mapping Ring 1 area, Terminal Teluk Lamong also mapped Ring 2 with four kelurahan and three kecamatan in Surabaya. Kelurahan with no direct impact or in Ring 2 are Manukan Wetan, Balongsari (both in Kecamatan Tandes), Sumber Rejo (Kecamatan Pakal), and Dupak (Kecamatan Krembangan).

Social mapping has to be followed by implementation of focus group discussion (FGD) to fulfill the communities’ needs in accordance with company policy. In FGD the communities are asked to make a list of needs to be submitted to the Management. The social mapping facilitates assistance distribution as well as the preparation of the next work program.
